GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon Division III All-America Scholar team on Tuesday evening at its annual awards dinner and Washington and Lee senior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) was among those honored at the event.
Gavrich was one of 27 Division III players to receive the All-America Scholar Award, which honors juniors and seniors who have played in at least 70 percent of the team's rounds or who have competed in the NCAA Championships. Honorees must also have a stroke average of 79.0 or under, be of high moral character and have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2 or better.
Gavrich is the first General to receive All-America Scholar honors from the GCAA since Nathaniel James '08 was named to the team in 2007 and 2008. A First Team All-ODAC selection this spring, Gavrich finished the 2010-11 season with a 75.0 scoring average over 22 rounds played. He finished 10th at the ODAC Championship and won two events during the year, the Virginia Intercollegiate in October and the Pine Needles Invitational in March.
For his career, the English major recorded a 76.9 stroke average across 71 rounds played.
