W&L Golf Finishes 12th at Penn Quaker Invitational

FLOURTOWN, Pa. – The Washington and Lee golf team finished in 12th place out of 14 teams following 36 holes of competition on Monday at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

The Generals carded a score of 315-319—634, competing as the only Division III team in the field.  Penn won the event with a score of 296-303—599.

Individually, senior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) and junior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) paced W&L by tying for eighth place out of 79 competitors with scores of 151.  Gavrich went 74-77—151, while Anthony carded a 77-74—151.

First-year Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) tied for 50th with a score of 80-80—160, while senior Tom Bowden (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) placed 75th with a score of 84-88—172.  First-year John Torell (Bronxville, N.Y./Brunswick School) rounded out the Generals individuals by tying for 77th with an 87-88—175.

Washington and Lee will return to action on April 17-19 when it participates in the ODAC Championship held at the Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va.
