CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – The Washington and Lee golf team shot an opening round score of 307 on the Gold Course at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate held at the Paradise Point Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
The event features 32 teams, with 16 teams playing the more difficult Gold course (Par 72) and another 16 playing on the easier Scarlet Course (Par 70). Teams will swap courses on Saturday and the top 16 teams following the first two rounds will meet on the Gold Course to determine a champion on Sunday.
Individually for the Generals, first-year Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) leads the way with an opening round 74. Junior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) carded a 75, while senior Tom Bowden (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) posted a 78. Seniors Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) and Rand Potter (Old Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) rounded out W&L's individuals with scores of 80 and 87, respectively.
Team scores from Friday's opening round are still rolling in. The Generals will return to action on Saturday as they play the Scarlett Course.
