CAPE CHARLES, Va. -- The Washington and Lee golf team carded an opening round 310 (+22) and resides in first place following the first day of competition at the ODAC Championships held at the Bay Creek Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Generals lead Bridgewater by two strokes, with Guilford lurking in third place after shooting a 314. Roanoke (317), Lynchburg (329), Hampden-Sydney (334), Virginia Wesleyan (340) and Randolph-Macon (342) round out the championship field.
Individually, W&L is being led by sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal), who is in third place overall after carding a three-over par score of 75. Senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) are both tied for sixth with a 78, while senior Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) is tied for 11th with a 79. Senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) added an 81 and is tied for 16th overall.
Mike Redwood of Bridgewater and Dusty Roberts of Guilford are tied for the individual lead after both fired a two-over par score of 74.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday with the second round of the three-round championship event. The Generals tee off in the final grouping at 12:45 pm.
