W&L Golf Opens Competition at Jeykll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Washington and Lee golf team returned to action on Friday afternoon as the Generals are taking part in the three-day Jekyll Island Collegiate held at the Oleander Course in Jekyll Island, Ga.

W&L carded an opening round 300 to tie for seventh out of 27 teams competing in the first day of the tournament.

Leading the way for the Generals was senior Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), who opened the event with an even-par score of 72.  Senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) carded a 75, while junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) shot a 76.  Senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) completed his first round with a 77 and sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) wrapped up the W&L competitors with an 81.

Action continues for W&L on Saturday morning with the second round from the Oleander Course.
