W&L Golf Finishes 11th at Guilford Tom O'Briant Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee golf team finished in 11th place out of 17 teams at the Guilford Tom O’Briant Invitational held at the Cardinal Golf & Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday.
The Generals carded a two-day score of 318-323—641 to finish 52 strokes behind team champion Methodist University (296-293—589). Individually, the Monarchs had the top three finishers led by Trey Howell and Josh Speight, who both shot 73-73—146 (+6) to tie for medalist honors.
For W&L, senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) posted the top score, shooting a 76-82—158 to finish 29th out of 90 individuals.
Senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) tied for 30th overall with a 79-80—159, while junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) finished in a tie for 41st with a score of 84-77—161. Senior Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tied for 47th overall (79-84—163) and sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) rounded out the Generals contingent by finishing in a tie for 79th overall with a 90-84—174.
The Generals have now completed the fall portion of their schedule. W&L will return to the links on March 1-2 as it takes part in the Callaway Collegiate Invitational in Pine Mountain, Ga.
