W&L Golf Places Ninth Overall at the Greensboro Invitational

WALBURG, N.C. – The Washington and Lee golf team carded a two-day score of 301-311—612 to finish ninth out of the 13 teams competing at the Greensboro College Invitational held at the Meadowlands Golf Club in Walburg, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday.

Methodist University won the event with a score of 286-289—575 (-1), while Monarch Josh Speight was the individual medalist with a score of 69-69—138 (-6).

Leading the way for the Generals was senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) and junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster), who both fired a two-day score of 151 to tie for 22nd place.  Langan posted a total of 71-80—151, while Gavrich carded a score of 74-77—151.

Sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) finished in a tie for 24th place with a 76-76—152 and junior Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tied for 47th overall with an 80-78—158.  Senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) rounded out the Generals with an 81-81—162 that was tied for 59th place.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Oct. 11-12 as it participates in the Virginia State Intercollegiate held at the Stoney Creek Golf Club in Wintergreen, Va.
