W&L Golf Completes Day One at Greensboro Invitational

WALBURG, N.C. – The Washington and Lee golf team carded an opening round score of 301 and is tied for fifth out of 13 teams competing at the Greensboro College Invitational held at the Meadowlands Golf Club in Walburg, N.C.

Methodist University leads the tournament with a two-under par score of 286, while Greensboro’s Ben Nihart and Methodist’s Josh Speight are tied for the individual lead with a three-under score of 69.

Senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) carded W&L’s top score on the day and is tied for sixth overall with a one-under score of 71.

Junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) is tied for 19th with a score of 74 (+2), while sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) is tied for 24th with a 76.  Seniors Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) rounded out the W&L competitors in the field.  Gibson shot an 80 and is tied for 50th overall, while Womble carded an 81 and is tied for 57th overall.

Action continues on Tuesday morning with the second and final round from the Meadowlands Golf Club.
