W&L Golf in Second Place After Day One at ETown Invitational

HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee golf team resides in second place out of seven teams following the first day of action at the Elizabethtown Invitational held at the Hershey Links in Hershey, Pa., on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals shot an opening round score of 301 and are six strokes behind the team leader Methodist University (295).

Individually, sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) leads the way for W&L and ranks third overall with an opening round score of even-par 72.  Senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) shot a 73 and is tied for fourth overall, while senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) and junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) both carded a 78 and are tied for 13th overall.  Senior Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) rounded out the Generals in the tournament, shooting an 80 to tie for 17th overall.

The Generals continue action at the Elizabethtown Invitational on Sunday morning.
