W&L Golf In Action at Callaway Collegiate Invitational
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Washington and Lee golf team
compiled an opening round score of 315 on Monday afternoon and
resides in ninth place out of 15 teams at the Callaway Collegiate
Invitational at the Callaway Gardens Golf Club in Pine Mountain,
Ga.
Western Georgia University leads the event with a day one score of
290 and is followed by Methodist University in second place with a
297. Rhodes College (300), Darton College (301), Huntingdon College
(303), Oglethorpe University (304), Birmingham-Southern College
(308), Emory University (309), W&L (315) and Piedmont College
(317) rounded out the top 10.
Individually for Washington and Lee, senior Robert Womble (Raleigh,
N.C./Broughton) and junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster)
lead the way with opening rounds of 76. Senior Joe Gibson (Atlanta,
Ga./Westminster) carded an 82, while sophomore Wilson Anthony
(Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) notched an 81 and senior Matt Langan
(Prospect, Ky./Trinity) recorded an 86.
The Generals will continue on Tuesday with the final round of
action from the Callaway Gardens Golf Club.
