J.D. Ey is in his second season as the men's basketball assistant coach. In 2013-14, W&L made the conference semifinals, which marked the Blue and White's deepest run in the tournament since losing in the finals in 2008-09. The team entered the tournament as the No. 11 seed, and became the first No. 11 seed in the history of the ODAC to win a game or reach the semifinals. The Generals lost to eventual champion Virginia Wesleyan, and finished with an 8-20 record.
A 2013 gradute of W&L with a bachelor of science in accounting and business administration, he was a four-year letterwinner for the basketball team, serving as a captian his senior season.
He is the only player in the history of the program to total at least 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 200 assists, 150 blocks and 100 steals. Ey finished his career second all-time in blocks (167), fifth in steals (141), seventh in rebounds (839), 10th in assists (243) and 20th in scoring (1,023).
