W&L Men's Basketball Defeated by Ferrum, 66-54
LEXINGTON, Va. — Ferrum nailed six triples in the opening half en route to a 66-54 victory over the Washington and Lee men's basketball team on Wednesday in the Warner Center.
Junior forward Jamal Pullen (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) led the Panthers (4-8) with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also notched six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
Senior center Drew Kimberly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and sophomore forward Andrew Franz (Charlotte, N.C./ravenscroft) each scored in double figures for the Generals (4-8). Kimberly finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Franz had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Ferrum jumped out to a 13-10 lead in the first 5:40 of the opening half. Over the next 3:37, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to 11 (23-12). The gap was widened to 16, 36-20, at the 3:43 mark, but a 5-0 spurt by W&L on a jumper by sophomore forward Jok Asiyo (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and three free throws by Franz cut the deficit to 36-25 at halftime.
The Panthers came out hot in the second half and extended the advantage to 15, 46-31, in the first 5:38 of the period. Ferrum eventually pushed the advantage to 20 points (58-38) with 9:02 left on the clock. The Generals went on a 9-2 run in the final three minutes, but would get no closer than 12 the rest of the contest.
The Blue and White shot 42.0 percent (21-50) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-14) from the downtown and 66.7 percent (10-15) from the charity stripe. The Panthers ended the contest 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) from the floor, 8-of-22 (36.4 percent) from behind the arc and 6-of-8 (75.0 percent) from the foul line.
Ferrum won the rebounding battle, 36-26, including 10 offensive rebounds. The Generals had just six assists compared to 11 turnovers, while the Panthers totaled 11 assists.
W&L returns to ODAC play on Saturday when it travels to Emory & Henry on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
