Cold Shooting Dooms W&L Men's Hoops at R-MC
ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon used a 33-5 second-half run to produce a 72-41 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
The 11th-ranked Yellow Jackets (19-3, 11-2) held a 31-26 lead at the break and the Generals (12-8, 5-7) scattered three early jumpers around a single Macon basket to cut it to a one-point game (33-32) with 17:53 remaining in the game. However, W&L went 2-for-13 from the field over the next 12:34 of game action in falling behind 66-37 with 5:19 to play as the Yellow Jackets cruised to the 31-point victory.
After shooting 43.5 percent (10-23) from the floor in the first half, the Generals hit just 6-of-25 (.240) in the second stanza en route to a shooting a season-low 33.3 percent (16-48) from the floor. Conversely, Randolph-Macon shot 50.9 percent (29-57) from the floor and held a 36-29 advantage on the glass.
First-year forward Drew Kimberly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), sophomore forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and sophomore guard Jeremy Adkins (Huntington, W.Va./Spring Valley) led the Generals with seven points apiece. Kimberly's point total tied a career-high, while his eight rebounds were also a career-best.
Forward Danny Jones led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the floor. Center Brandon Braxton had 12 points and five boards, while guard Calvin Croskey totaled 10 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday as it travels to Greensboro College for a 7:30 pm contest.
