LEXINGTON, Va. -- Emory University closed the first half with a 14-0 run and maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the second half in producing a 66-54 victory over Drew in the opening day of the W&L Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Drew (2-6) held a 19-18 lead with 5:22 left in the opening stanza, but the Eagles' (7-3) run, sparked by eight points from first-year guard Alex Greven (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds), gave them a 32-19 lead at the break.

A 7-0 run by the Rangers midway through the second half cut it to an eight-point game (50-42) with 7:16 remaining, but the Eagles pushed back out to a double-figure lead just minutes later and cruised to the win.

For the game, Drew shot just 33.9 percent (20-59) from the floor, while Emory shot 51.2 percent (21-41).

Greven led Emory with 19 points, while senior forward Anthony Fernandez (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) chipped in 11 points.  Sophomore guard guard Marcus Claunch (Cypress, Texas/Strake Jesuit) added 10 points.
