W&L's Ben Goetsch Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior basketball player Ben Goetsch (Timonium, Md./Gilman) has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III First Team it was announced on Thursday.

Goetsch, a German and economics double major, has started all 19 of the Generals’ contests and has helped lead W&L to a 13-6 (5-5 ODAC) mark thus far. The senior captain is currently leading W&L and is ranked in the Top 10 in the ODAC in both scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). Additionally, he has posted six double-doubles on the season and has notched at least 20 points on six different occasions, while shooting 50.8 percent (123-242) from the floor. He was the only player from the ODAC to be honored.

By virtue of his first team selection, Goetsch will now be placed on the national ballot where he will have a chance to earn Academic All-America honors. The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
