NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Vassar scored three second-half goals on its way to a 4-0 neutral-site victory over the 20th-ranked Washington and Lee field hockey team on Saturday at Christopher Newport.
Holding a 1-0 advantage at halftime, the Brewers (3-1) extended their lead to 2-0 just 2:17 into the second half off the stick of senior forward Emily Poehlein.
Vassar stretched the lead to 3-0 two minutes later on a goal by senior midfielder Alyssa More, and senior midfielder Megan Caveny notched the Brewers final tally with 16 minutes left in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) did all she could for the Generals (1-2), tallying 14 saves. She moved her career total to 289, and is just one away from tying Kirsten Kyne '13 for the W&L career saves record.
Vassar led in shots, 27-5, and held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.
The Generals host Denison on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
