INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its 2017 Division III Field Hockey Tournament field on Sunday evening, and Washington and Lee was one of 24 teams to make the bracket. W&L will host Denison in the first round on Wednesday with the game time still to be determined.
The Generals have a 14-4 record and earned a bid to the tournament after claiming the second Old Dominion Athletic Conference title in program history on Saturday with a 2-1 overtime victory over Lynchburg at the W&L Turf Field. The Blue and White has also won 10 straight games dating back to September 23.
This is the second time in program history the Generals have qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and it will mark the first home game for the Blue and White. W&L fell at Montclair State, 2-0, in the first round in its only previous trip to the tournament in 2005.
The Big Red are 17-3 overall and won the North Coast Athletic Conference title on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Wittenberg. Denison has won 15 straight contests with its last loss coming on September 13.
The Generals and the Big Red played earlier this season in Granville, Ohio on September 10. Denison won that contest, 2-0.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the second round and play at top-ranked Messiah on Saturday.
