CHANDLER, Ariz. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its participants and alternates on Wednesday for the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division III Senior Game, and Washington and Lee senior midfielder Maggie Sands (Glen Arm, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was selected as an alternate.
The NFHCA selected 60 participants nationwide to participate in the Senior Game, and then Sands was among 12 alternates chosen. Alternates would take the spot of student-athletes who have been selected as participants but are unable to compete in the Senior Game.
Sands is having her most successful season to date, as she has a career-best four goals and one assist in 14 games for nine points.
In her previous three seasons, Sands has earned Second Team All-ODAC accolades three times and garnered a spot on the NFHCA National Academic Squad on three occasions. Over her career, she has totaled nine goals and three assists for 21 points in 69 contests.
The W&L field hockey team is currently 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC. The Generals have won six games in a row, and host Bridgewater on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
The 2017 Division III Senior Game will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 5:00 pm at Bellarmine University.
