W&L Field Hockey Drops a 3-1 Decision to Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior midfielder Hannah Paterakis scored a pair of goals to lead Kenyon College to a 3-1 win over Washington and Lee in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field.

The Ladies (4-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 2:40 into the contest when senior forward Katelyn Hutchinson took a shot that rebounded to Paterakis, who slipped the ball past W&L junior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md. / Garrison Forest School) for a goal.

Kenyon increased its lead to 2-0 when first-year midfielder Gigi Guenther fed first-year forward Olivia O'Connell for a goal at the 15:12 mark.

The Generals (1-2) cut into the deficit in the second half at 59:31 when first-year forward Caroline Grace (Warwick, R.I. / Phillips Exeter Academy) collected a rebound and found the back of the cage.  However, the comeback attempt ended when Paterakis scored her second goal of the game, this time off an assist from senior midfielder Kelsey Trulik at 62:08.

For the game, the Ladies held a 15-2 advantage in shots and 7-4 edge in penalty corners.  Yavalar posted two saves while playing the duration in goal.  Senior Sarah Speroff also played the entire contest in goal for Kenyon and didn't make any saves.

Washington and Lee will return to action on Sunday when it heads to Denison for an 11:00 am contest.
