Hampsch Earns NFHCA All-Region Honor

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Washington and Lee senior defender Riley Hampsch (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) was recently named to the 2013 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-South Region Second Team.

Hampsch finished second on the team this year with five defensive saves and scored a goal in the 5-0 victory over Roanoke on October 15.

She played in and started all 20 games to lead the defense for the Generals. Earlier this season, Hampsch earned a spot on the All-ODAC First Team, which marked her third all-conference accolade in four years.

She is the first General to receive All-Region honors since Emmy Mathews made the second team in 2010 and only the eighth player in the history of the program to garner the recognition.

The Generals ended the 2013 season with a 5-2 loss at Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament. Washington and Lee finished the year with a 5-15 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the conference.
