W&L's Mathews Earns NFHCA All-Region Laurels

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region teams on Thursday afternoon and Washington and Lee senior Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) was among the honorees.

Mathews was named to the South Region Second Team for the second time in her career, having also been honored following the 2008 season.
She started all 17 games as a midfielder and finished with 15 points on four goals and a team-high seven assists. She also added one defensive save. Her seven assists were tied for the fourth-most in the ODAC and she wraps up her career ranked third all-time at W&L with 18 career assists.
Mathews was also a first team all-conference selection and the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She helped lead the Generals to an overall record of 9-8 and an ODAC mark of 5-2. W&L's season ended in the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament with a 5-3 loss to Randolph-Macon.
