FOREST, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for October 31 and Washington and Lee had a pair of athletes honored.
Senior Kelly Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) earned the weekly award for field hockey, while junior Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) was honored as the swimmer of the week.
Tran scored a pair of goals and an assist in helping the Generals to a 2-0 week, including a 4-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday.
In the win over VWC, Tran scored a pair of goals to lead W&L into the semifinal round of the conference tournament for the ninth-consecutive year. She also notched an assist on the game-winning goal in the Generals' 2-1 overtime win over Bridgewater on Wednesday.
Cassada earned the award after swimming in seven events over two meets last week. She notched a pair of first-place finishes in a 145-116 win over Transylvania and recorded a second and third-place finish at the Centre Invite as W&L finished third out of four teams.
In the win over Transy, she was victorious in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.84 and she was a part of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:54.91). Against Centre, she took second place in the 100 back (1:02.75) and third in the 200 back (2:16.57).
The W&L field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday when it takes on Randolph-Macon in the ODAC semifinals at 4:00 pm, while the women's swim team is back in the pool on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon at 1:00 pm.
