W&L Field Hockey Records 3-2 OT Win at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior forward Kelly Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) recorded a pair of goals and an assist as the Washington and Lee field hockey team earned a 3-2 OT win over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon at Scott S. Bair Stadium.

Junior defender Lindsey Edmonds (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) opened the scoring when she gave the Generals (2-1) a 1-0 lead at the 14:23 mark of the first half. Tran was credited with the assist on the goal.
After the Green Terror (2-4) tied the match in the second half, Tran put the Generals up 2-1 with her second goal, this one following a feed from senior midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) at the 42:12 mark.
McDaniel scored once more in the second half to force overtime before Tran made victors of the Generals as she deposited a pass from junior midfielder Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Holy Cross) past the McDaniel keeper with just 4:37 remaining in the first overtime.
Sophomores Caroline Sutherland (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor) and Kirsten Kyne (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) split time in goal with Kyne earning the victory. First-year defender Riley Hampsch (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) added a defensive save, as did senior defender Kate Donnelly (Houston, Texas/St. John's).
The Generals return to action on Sunday when they take on No. 20 Johns Hopkins at 2:00 pm.
