W&L Field Hockey Places Two Athletes on All-State Teams
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) recently announced their College Division All-State Field Hockey teams and Washington and Lee had a pair of athletes honored.
Senior forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John’s) was selected to the first team for the third time in her career, while senior defender Grace McGee (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. McKellam) earned her first all-state nod with a second team selection.
Armstrong totaled 37 points on 17 goals and three assists on the year and became W&L’s all-time leader in goals scored (56) and total points (130). Her 17 goals were good for third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, as were her 37 total points, and she led the ODAC with five game-winning goals.
McGee, who started 17 games for the Generals on defense, posted six points on a pair of goals and two assists while also recording three defensive saves. She helped W&L to set a new school record with six-straight shutouts and was a key member of a defense that allowed just 1.67 goals per game.
W&L finished the season with a 10-7 overall mark and a 5-2 record in league play. The Generals advanced to the conference semifinals for the eighth-straight season.
