W&L Names Scott Abell Head Football Coach
Washington and Lee Director of Athletic Jan Hathorn announced that Scott Abell has been promoted to head football coach effective immediately. Abell had previously served as the program’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
Frank Miriello Retires as Head Football Coach at W&L
Washington and Lee’s Frank Miriello has announced his retirement as the school’s head football coach effective immediately. Miriello will remain as an instructor of physical education through the remainder of the current term.
Numerous W&L Students Earn Fall Scholar-Athlete Awards
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 166 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed fall term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.50.
Westfal Named VaSID Offensive Player of the Year
Washington and Lee senior quarterback Charlie Westfal (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) recently headlined the 2011 VaSID College Division All-State team as the Offensive Player of the Year.
W&L Football Earns Two All-America Nods
The Washington and Lee football team had a pair of players honored on the D3Football.com 2011 All-America Teams on Friday evening.
