Jon Berlin is in his first season as an assistant football coach at Washington and Lee, where he will work primarily with the defensive line and as special teams coordinator.
Berlin comes to Washington and Lee from Rustburg High School, where he has served as head football coach since 2008. He took over a 1-9 team and led them to back-to-back 5-5 seasons, along with their first region playoff appearance since 2003. Along with Head Coach Scott Abell, Berlin is a co-founder of the Central Virginia Coaches Clinic and he has served as the co-director of the clinic since 2002.
Also a government and weightlifting teacher at Rustburg High School, Berlin's coaching experience also included four years working with Abell at Amherst County High School (2002-06). In addition to his time at Amherst County, he also held assistant coaching positions at Monticello High School (1999-01), Western Albemarle High School (1996-99) and Albemarle High School (1991-95).
Berlin is a 1994 graduate of Mary Baldwin College with a bachelor of arts in history. He also attended classes at the University of Virginia, receiving special education certification from the Virginia Department of Education. Berlin then earned a master's degree in administration/supervision from Liberty University in 2004.
