MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Washington and Lee senior running back Luke Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) was named to the D3Football.com All-America team which was released during the holiday break.
Heinsohn was selected to the fourth team and was one of eight running backs nationally to be honored by the website. He is the third General to be recognized on the site's All-America team over the last two years and the sixth since 2001.
Heinsohn adds the honor to a wealth of other laurels for the 2012 season, including garnering the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Willie Lanier Awards, and being named a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is presented to the National Player of the Year.
Heinsohn leads all NCAA Divisions with an ODAC-record 188 total points during the 2012 season. He rushed 183 times for 1,253 yards and a school-record 22 touchdowns, hit 48-of-52 PAT attempts and went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts. A First Team All-ODAC honoree as a sophomore and second team pick as a junior, Heinsohn finished his career as the Generals' all-time leading rusher (3,517) and scorer (344).
Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior quarterback Nate Wara was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Mary Hardin-Baylor senior linebacker Javicz Jones was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Mount Union's Larry Kehres was named the Coach of the year, leading the Purple Raiders to the National Championship.
Washington and Lee won its second ODAC title in the last three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament before falling to Hobart in the opening round by a score of 38-20.
