FOREST, Va. – Washington and Lee University swept the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for football for the week ending October 16.
Senior quarterback Charlie Westfal (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, while senior linebacker Rob Look (Dallas, Texas/Hillcrest) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Both players had key roles in the Generals posting a 34-30 comeback victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday. Westfal completed 7-of-12 passes for a season-high 231 yards and one touchdown, and rushed 17 times for 98 yards.
Westfal led the Generals on a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, rushing for 45 yards and converting a 4th-and-2 and a 3rd-and-10 on the game-tying drive with 9:26 left in the game. He also rushed in a two-point conversion to tie the game at 27-27. Then, trailing 30-27 with 3:55 to go, Westfal led W&L on a 69-yard drive, completing a 62-yard pass play to Alex Evans that led to the game-winning score with 2:09 left in the game.
For the season, Westfal has completed 50-of-83 passes for 979 yards and eight touchdowns with just one interception. He currently leads the ODAC with a 188.72 quarterback efficiency rating. Westfal has also ranks eighth in the conference in rushing, carrying 92 times for 493 yards and four touchdowns.
A Second Team All-ODAC honoree last season, Westfal is closing in on the W&L career record for total offense, compiling 6,237 yards, a total that is just 147 yards from breaking the record set by Christian Batcheller '00. He also ranks sixth all-time in both rushing yards (2,032) and passing yards (4,205).
Look led the Generals' defense against the Yellow Jackets, totaling a career-high 17 tackles and one sack on the day.
Look made one of the key plays in the game when he sacked Randolph-Macon quarterback Zac Naccarato for a loss of nine yards on a 3rd-and-goal from the 2-yardline with just over four minutes remaining. It forced the Yellow Jackets to settle for a 29-yard field goal and allowed the Generals to take the lead and score the game-winning touchdown on the ensuing possession.
For the season, Look leads W&L with 62 tackles, 2.0 sacks and one interception. A Second Team All-ODAC pick as a sophomore, he has notched 221 tackles, 5.0 sacks and two interceptions during his career.
Washington and Lee, now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC, hosts Bridgewater (4-2, 1-1) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
