LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee offensive line picked up another award during the week as it was named to the D3Football.com offensive team of the week for the games of Oct. 29-30.
The Generals' entire offensive line, comprised of senior Greg Kurkis, (Roswell, Ga./Westminster), juniors John Fitzgibbons (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) and Matt Benson (Mint Hill, N.C./Butler), sophomore Mike Stefanelli (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and first-years Bobby Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) and Connor Hollenbeck (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) earned offensive team of the week recognition for W&L's 49-14 win over Catholic University last Friday evening.
The W&L offense had a record-setting week against the Cardinals, totaling 604 yards of total offense and holding the ball for better than 41 of the game's 60 minutes. The Generals had three backs eclipse the 100-yard rushing barrier in amassing an ODAC record for rushing yards in a game (496). It was Washington and Lee's fifth-straight game of better than 400 yards rushing and the sixth overall 400-yard rushing performance this year.
With Friday's offensive performance, the Generals also set a school and conference record for rushing yards in a season (3,008) and eclipsed the ODAC record for season rushing touchdowns (33).
As a group, the W&L offensive line has paved the way for an average of 455.9 yards and 36.4 points per game.
Washington and Lee (6-2, 5-0 ODAC) hosts 19th-ranked Hampden-Sydney (8-0, 4-0) on Saturday at 1:00 pm. A win would give the Generals the 2010 ODAC title and the accompanying bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
