FOREST, Va. – Washington and Lee junior cornerback Mike Hartford (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week for the week ending November 7.
With Hartford's selection, W&L has now claimed the defensive player of the week three times in the last four weeks and four times overall. The Generals have also been presented the offensive player of the week on four occasions this year.
Hartford claimed the defensive player of the week award after helping lead Washington and Lee to a 38-27 win over No. 19 Hampden-Sydney on Saturday. He totaled six tackles (5 solo) and intercepted two passes as W&L forced five Tiger turnovers and posted five sacks.
For the season, Hartford has posted 35 tackles, six pass breakups and three interceptions.
The win over H-SC clinched the 2010 ODAC title for Washington and Lee (7-2 overall) by virtue of a 6-0 conference record. The Generals finish the regular season on Saturday (1:00 pm) at Juniata (0-9) and will find out their opponent in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
