W&L Names Brandon Cohen Assistant Baseball Coach

LEXINGTON, Va. — Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Brandon Cohen as assistant baseball coach.

Cohen comes to W&L after spending last season as an assistant softball coach at Bridgewater. While with the Eagles, he was responsible for the team’s offense and worked with the outfield defensively. During the 2015-16 school year, he was an assistant coach with the James Madison University softball team.

Prior to his stint as a softball coach, Cohen served as an assistant baseball coach for JMU from 2011 through 2015. He was primarily the hitting and outfield coach with the Dukes. During the 2013 season, the team’s offense batted .318, which was third in Division I.

Cohen was drafted in the 48th round of the 2002 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins and competed collegiately at Seton Hall University where he was a team captain in 2005 and 2006.

After earning a bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Seton Hall in 2006, Cohen played professionally for four years, primarily as an outfielder and first baseman in the independent Frontier League. He played three seasons for the Rockford Riverhawks and split a season with the Evansville Otters and the Florence Freedom.
