NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team dropped a pair of games to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (13-17, 6-9 ODAC) fell in game one, 8-4, before dropping game two, 4-3.
Senior Pat Smith (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) took the loss in game one, allowing eight runs (4 ER) in 5.0 innings to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Junior Jonathan Stutts (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and Luke Deary (Carlisle, Mass./Groton School) were both 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the W&L offense. Senior Alston James (Columbia, S.C./Hammond) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.
In game two, after W&L tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth inning, the Marlins (7-20, 3-11) tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 4-2 lead. The Generals scored one run in the ninth inning before VWC snuffed out the W&L rally.
Junior Ian Shaw (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood) took the loss, surrendering four runs (3 ER) on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
Junior Will Salley (Augusta, Ga./Westside) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and sophomore Josh Josephson (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage) and senior C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) were both 2-for-4. Josephson drove in a run and scored once.

The Generals return to action on Monday when they host Southern Virginia at 3:00 pm.
