LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team improved to 7-1 at home with a 9-5 victory over Southern Virginia on Thursday evening at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.
The Generals (8-8) moved to .500 for the first time all season with the come-from-behind victory, while the Knights fell to 2-10 on the year.
W&L trailed, 3-2, entering the seventh inning before scoring seven runs in the frame to take a 9-3 lead en route to the win.
After a leadoff groundout to begin the seventh, sophomore Keegan Dolan (Bethesda, Md./Landon) drew a one-out walk and stole second base. Junior Dale Brown (Mesa, Ariz./Highland) drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to inch SVU to within four runs at 9-5. However, senior Lee Tackett (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) induced sophomore Mitch Stevenson (Muskogee, Okla./Muskogee) to pop out to end the threat.
Southern Virginia had taken a 3-1 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by junior Tyler Cox (Forest, Miss./Forest) and a two-run single by senior Trager Hintze (Purcell, Okla./Snow Canyon).
