LEXINGTON, Va. -- The American Baseball Coaches Association recently announced its 2011 All-Region Teams and Washington and Lee senior righthander Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) was among those honored.
Laswell was named to the All-South Region Second Team, marking the 10th time in the last 11 years that the Generals have had at least one player honored. This is the first all-region award for Laswell.
The 2011 ODAC Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-ODAC pick, Laswell wrapped up 2011 with a 4-1 record and three saves. He posted an ERA of 2.01 in 67.0 innings. Opponents hit just .185 against him as he allowed just 44 base hits and 12 walks while striking out 70. He led the ODAC in ERA, batting average against, strikeouts and runs allowed (16), and he ranked in the Top 5 in hits allowed and earned runs allowed (15).
In just three seasons at W&L after playing at Air Force as a first-year, he finished his career ranked fourth all-time in appearances with 48. His 70 strikeouts this year are the fifth-most in a single season at W&L and his five career saves are good for third all-time.
The Generals finished 2011 at 15-16 overall and 12-6 in the ODAC. The 12 conference wins were the most for a W&L team since it won 15 in 2003. Bridgewater ended the Generals' season with a 7-4 win on day two of the ODAC Tournament.
