W&L Men's Swimmers Honored by Bluegrass Mountain Conference
Lexington, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s swimming
team recently had a number of swimmers named to the All-Bluegrass
Mountain Conference (BMC) team following its third-place finish at
the conference meet.
The 13 swimmers that W&L had honored included seniors Paul
Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell), Chris Diebold (Platte
City, Mo./Lansdale Catholic) and Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George
Walton), juniors Dan Austin (Terrace Park, Ohio/Mariemont), Brandon
Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee), John Giesen (Hoover,
Ala./Paul Laurence Dunbar) and Nick Talluri (Mount Airy, N.C./Mount
Airy) and first-years Frank Cullo (Sewickley, Pa./Central
Catholic), Ian Dexter (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook), Robert
Grattan (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal), Ryan Hartman (Yorktown,
Va./Grafton), Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and
Christopher Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville).
Austin headlined the individuals at teh BMC Champsionship as he
finished in second-place in the 1000 free in a school-record time
of 9:40.92. Giesen took fourth (9:44.97) and Cullo grabbed fifth
(9:46.98) in the same event. Washnock recorded a third-place finish
in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.84 and a fifth-place finish in
the 400 individual medley (4:07.78). Talluri finished sixth in the
100 free (46.57) to round out the individual placings.
W&L’s 400 free relay team of Crook, Stirling, Barnds and
Talluri took third in 3:02.83, while the 200 free relay team
(Dexter, Barnds, Talluri, Tatman) touched in fourth-place with a
time of 1:23.26. The 800 free relay team (Crook, Diebold, Hartman,
Tatman) finished in fifth-place in 6:55.91.
The Generals 400 medley relay squad (Crook, Diebold, Stirling,
Grattan) finished in fifth-place with a time of 3:29.42, while the
200 medley relay team (Diebold, Stirling, Grattan, Barnds) also
took fifth with a time of 1:34.73.
Washtington and Lee finished in third-place at the BMC meet and
followed that up by finishing tied for 36th at the NCAA meet.
