W&L Field Hockey Picked Second in ODAC Preseason Poll

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2007 preseason coaches poll for field hockey on Tuesday afternoon and Washington and Lee was picked to finish second with 75 overall points, just two points less than top-pick Lynchburg's 77 points.

Lynchburg was pegged the favorite with five first-place votes followed by the Generals, who earned four first-place nods. Eastern Mennonite rounded out the Top 3 with 61 overall points.

Washington and Lee returns eight starters from last season's team, including 2006 ODAC Player of the Year Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox). The 2006 squad finished 14-6 overall and 7-1 in the ODAC.

Last season, Korte received First Team All-Region, All-State and All-ODAC honors. She started all 20 games last fall and finished third on the team in scoring with 20 points on six goals and eight assists. Korte will enter her senior season ranked fourth all-time at W&L with 57 career points (19 g, 19 a).

The Generals begin the 2007 campaign on Sept. 8 as they travel to Catholic for a 5:00 pm contest.
