LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the promotion of Bryan Snyder to Assistant Athletics Director for finance effective immediately.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to be able to serve Washington and Lee and the athletic department in this new capacity," said Snyder. "Washington and Lee has been very important to me first as a student, then as an athletic intern, then as a full-time coach, and now as an administrator, and I hope that I am able to contribute to the continued improvement of the University and the campus community."
In his new position, Snyder will be responsible for all athletic department finances and team travel. He will remain as the school's volleyball coach.
"It is my pleasure to offer this position to Bryan," stated Hathorn. "He ably assumed the responsibilities of our department's budget last year and has proven himself as a careful and thoughtful manager of these duties. His commitment to our department and his eagerness to take on this position of leadership made it a natural choice. I am excited to work with him in this new capacity."
A 1995 Washington and Lee graduate, Snyder returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2000 and has led the Generals' volleyball program to a 206-48 (.811) overall record and a 70-2 (.972) Old Dominion Athletic Conference mark during his seven seasons. Snyder's teams have won each of the last six ODAC titles and have competed in the NCAA Tournament six times, culminating with a trip to the NCAA "Sweet 16" last fall. He has been named the ODAC Coach of the Year six times and Virginia College Division Coach of the Year on five occasions.
Following his time as a student, Snyder remained at W&L as assistant sports information director until accepting a position as head volleyball coach and sports information director at St. Mary's College of Maryland in January of 1998. He directed the Seahawks to a 41-25 record over two seasons before returning to W&L.
Snyder is married to former W&L Head Athletic Trainer Holly Snyder. The two reside in Buena Vista, Va., with their son, Devin.
