W&L Names Additional Athletic Department Assistants
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the hiring of Michael Bennett, Garrett Brickner and Jocelyn Keller as assistant coaches within the department.
Bennett will serve as an assistant coach for the W&L
wrestling program. An alumnus of Washington and Lee, Bennett
returns to Lexington after serving as a director on the Peace and
Prosperity Project, a non-profit issue advocacy organization, and
in various capacities for the Indiana Republican Party. While in
Indiana, he has been an assistant coach for the Carmel Middle
School wrestling programs and an assistant coach for the Carmel
Wrestling Club. Bennett was hampered by injuries while at W&L,
but posted a 16-3 overall record as a junior and was named a team
captain as a senior. Bennett graduated from Washington and Lee in
2004 with a degree in business administration.
Brickner will aid the men's and women's track and field programs. Brickner comes to Washington and Lee after working for a year in Homeland Security at Dulles Airport. A 2006 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Brickner earned a degree in psychology and was a standout track and field athlete for the Keydets. A Division I National Qualifier in the high jump, Brickner was also an eight-time conference champion, a two-time IC4A Champion and currently holds the Big South Conference record in the high jump (6’-11.5”).
Keller will the join the women's soccer staff after spending the 2006 season as an assistant for the women's soccer and swim teams at Williams College. Prior to her stint at Williams, she was an assistant women's soccer coach at Earlham College for two seasons. A four-year letterwinner in soccer at DePauw, Keller graduated with her degree in sociology and anthropology with a psychology minor in 2004. On the soccer field, she led the Tigers to a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and made two NCAA appearances. As a senior, Keller helped guide the squad to the NCAA Semifinals, was named Team MVP and earned second team all-conference honors.
