Two Generals Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior Tom Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) have both been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams as first-team selections.

Brower earned first team academic all-district honors for the second-straight season. A politics major, Brower has twice been named the ODAC Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A two-time First Team All-ODAC and three-time All-South/Southeast Region honoree, he finished third overall at the 2007 ODAC Cross Country Championship and crossed the tape 19th overall (26:52) at the 2007 NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship.

Taylor received academic all-district laurels for the first time in her career. The economics major is a two-time receipient of the ODAC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and an All-ODAC athlete in both cross country and track & field. In cross country, she has twice earned First Team All-ODAC accolades and was a Second Team All-ODAC honoree as a sophomore. She has garnered All-South/Southeast Region honors twice and qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships, finishing with a time of 23:56. In track & field, Taylor has earned three All-ODAC citations, won the mile run at the 2007 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and holds school records in the steeple chase (11:59) and distance medley relay (12:28.91).

Brower and Taylor will both go on the national ballot where they could earn Academic All-America honors. The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
