Two Generals Named to VaSID All-State Baseball Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID) announced its 2008 College Division All-State baseball team on Wednesday and Washington and Lee had two players honored.

Junior centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was selected to the 11-player first team, while senior rightfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) was named to the second team.

McKelvey adds the honor to a list that already includes First Team All-ODAC and Second Team All-South Region laurels. He was also awarded a Gold Glove Award for the South Region. McKelvey led the Generals from the plate with a .407 batting average and a team-high 57 hits (57-140). He started all 34 contests this season and totaled six doubles, a school-record seven triples and a team-high five homeruns. McKelvey also added 28 RBI and had a .657 slugging percentage.

Madden was named Second Team All-ODAC and Second Team Academic All-District this spring. The 2008 ODAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, he started all 34 games and owned a .341 batting average (45-132). He also racked up a team-best 13 doubles, a school-record seven triples and three homeruns, along with 36 RBI. A four-year letterwinner and Second Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-Region pick as a sophomore, he concludes his career as W&L's all-time leader in triples (16).

The Generals completed the 2008 season with a 22-12 record, marking their 10th-straight winning campaign. The program also notched over 20 wins for the sixth season in that last 10 years.
