Two Generals Qualify for NCAA Track and Field Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recently announced the participants for the 2008 Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships and Washington and Lee juniors Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) and Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) both qualified in one event.
The 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Doornbos qualified in the heptathlon (4,562 total points) after her performance at the Asics Liberty Invitational & Multi's. Doornbos currently ranks as the fifth seed.
Shaw met the qualifying standard in the 5000 meters after her stellar performance at the Hillsdale Gina Relays (17:15.57). She will enter the race as the 10th seed.
Doornbos and Shaw are among 688 participants that will compete in the national championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
The championships will be held May 22-24 at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.
