MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The 2008 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams and Gold Glove Award Winners for the South Region were released on Monday afternoon and Washington and Lee junior centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was among the honorees.
McKelvey earned second-team all-region honors and was one of the nine winners of the Gold Glove Award from the South Region. The regional Gold Gloves are awarded to one player at each position for their performance on defense. Players receiving this award within their region will receive consideration for the ABCA/Rawlings National Gold Glove Awards.
A 2008 First Team All-ODAC selection, McKelvey led the Generals from the plate with a .407 batting average and a team-high 57 hits (57-140) en route to earning first-team all-conference honors. He started all 34 contests this season and totaled six doubles, a school-record seven triples and a team-high five homeruns. McKelvey also added 28 RBI and had a .657 slugging percentage. He also had a unblemished fielding percentage (1.00) and committed no errors on the season.
The Generals completed the 2008 season with a 22-12 record, marking their 10th-straight winning campaign. The program also notched over 20 wins for the sixth season in that last 10 years.
