COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Washington and Lee senior swimmer Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) has qualified to participate in the United States Olympic Trials held June 29 - July 6, 2008 at the Qwest Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Sweet met the qualifying standard in the 50 meter freestyle while participating in a time trial held at the Toyota Grand Prix hosted by Ohio State University at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday. He completed the trial in 23.39.
Sweet will swim the 50 meter freestyle event on Saturday and then will attempt to qualify in the 100 meter freestyle on Sunday.
Sweet finished as the 2008 NCAA Division III Champion in the 50 freestyle, winning the event in an NCAA Championship record time of 19.85.
