SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its all-conference team for swimming recently and Washington and Lee had nine athletes selected to the squad.
Senior Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches), juniors Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines), Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake), Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School), sophomores Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School) and freshmen Tess Hayden (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier) and Jackie Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) were all tabbed to the All-ODAC swimming team following outstanding performances at the 2008 ODAC/Atlantic States Championships.
Following the meet, Strachan was named ODAC Swimmer of the Year, while Hayden was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year. Roberson earned the women's swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Miata was the recipient of the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award.
Roberson, Strachan, Hayden and Worsham were all individual medalists at the championship meet. Roberson took the gold in the 100 fly (1:00.04), while Strachan posted first-place finishes in the 100 back (1:00.25) and the 200 back (2:08.90). Hayden won the 1650 free (18:21.26), the 200 free (1:59.42) and the 500 free (5:18.61) and Worsham finished first in the 100 breast (1:12:01).
The Generals also swept all five relays at the championships, setting school records in the 200 free medley (1:41.58) and the 400 medley relay (4:06.38).
W&L finished the regular season with a 13-6 overall record and a 7-0 ODAC mark and return all but three swimmers from this year's championship squad in 2008-09.
