W&L Field Hockey Honored For Academic Success

GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently announced its 2007 National Academic Squad and National Academic Team Awards. The Washington and Lee field hockey team was well represented on the National Academic Squad with 13 honorees, while the entire squad also received a National Academic Team Award.

Seniors Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), Laura Nugent (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Maggie Nugent (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate), juniors Melissa Dolan (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver), Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Lizzie Gotimer (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset), sophomores Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), Alex Caritis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and Stephanie Mansey (Mendham, N.J./Randolph) and freshmen Kate Donnelly (Houston, Texas/St. John's), Emily Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), Jennie Norcini (Wayne, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Kelly Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) were all tabbed to the National Academic Squad.

The National Academic Squad program recognizes collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

Washington and Lee finished the 2007 season with a 11-7 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals for the sixth-straight season before falling to Lynchburg.
