NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently released its 2007 All-Academic Cross Country Teams and both the Washington and Lee men's and women's teams were honored.
The association recognized 141 Division III women's programs and 99 men's teams for compiling a team score at the NCAA Regional Meet and achieving a minimum 3.10 team grade-point average (GPA).
Additionally, the Generals had seven individuals honored on the men's and women's individual academic teams. Juniors Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield School) and Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) and sophomores Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and Dorothy Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) were all named to the 203-member Division III women's team, while senior Tom Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and juniors Vance Berry (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal) and Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) were placed on the list of 114 Division III men's honorees.
Webb, Taylor and Telfeyan all earned First Team All-ODAC and All-South/Southeast Region honors in 2007, while Todd was a Second Team All-ODAC honoree. Telfeyan won the ODAC Championship en route to being named the ODAC Runner of the Year and Taylor was tabbed the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight season. Both Telfeyan and Taylor participated in the NCAA National Championship, finishing 103rd and 245th, respectively. The Generals claimed their fourth-straight ODAC Championship en route to a third place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals.
Brower, Berry and Welsh all earned First Team All-ODAC and All-South/Southeast Region honors during the 2007 season. Brower garnered the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year, while Welsh qualified for the NCAA National Championship, finishing in 164th place. As a team, the Generals won their fourth-straight ODAC title and finished fourth at the NCAA Regional meet.
