W&L's Martin Selected to Play in AFCA Aztec Bowl

WACO, Texas -- Washington and Lee senior wide receiver Jack Martin (Clayton, Mo./Hun School) has been selected to participate on the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) Division III all‑star team that will represent the United States against the Mexican National Team in the 2007 Aztec Bowl on December 8 in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Martin is one of 50 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country that will make up this year's team. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm CST at Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Chihuahua.

Martin led the Generals in receiving during the 2007 season with 53 catches for 893 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed once for 10 yards. A 2007 Preseason Second Team All-America selection by D3Football.com, Martin ended his career as W&L's all-time leader in receptions (164), receiving yards (2,953) and receiving touchdowns (32). He also set season records for receiving yards (1,353) and receiving touchdowns (15) during the 2005 season en route to earning Honorable Mention All-America honors.

The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season‑ending game for Mexico's college football season. The game has been played 36 times since 1947 with the last 10 contests featuring the United States‑Mexico match‑up. The United States is 9‑1 in the series and defeated Mexico, 28‑7, in the 2006 game in Aguascalientes.

Washington and Lee completed the 2007 season with a 6-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
