W&L's Sweet Named National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week

SOMENS, Wisc. -- Senior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) has been named the Division III National Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com for the week ending Jan. 13.

Sweet led W&L to victories over Marymount (222-37) and Wingate (133-129) on Saturday with two first-place finishes. He won both the 50 free (20.80 NCAA "B" Cut) and the 100 free (46.75), and finished second in the 200 free (1:33.39) to the reigning Division II National Champion.

Against Wingate, the Generals were behind in points, but Sweet and the 400 free relay (3:09.79 - 46.09 split) took first place to secure the win.

Sweet has already qualified for the 2008 NCAA Championships in two events as he owns the nation's-best times in the 50 free (20.55) and the 100 free (45.15).

The Generals return to action on Jan. 25 when they host Johns Hopkins at 7:00 pm.
