W&L MEN'S SOCCER CHOSEN THIRD IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its men's soccer preseason coaches poll on Tuesday and Washington and Lee was picked third among the conference's 10 teams.

W&L was picked third by the league coaches, behind defending ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan, who received eight first place votes, and Roanoke, who garnered two first place nods.

The Generals return a strong corps to the field in 2006, led by 2005 ODAC Coach of the Year Rolf Piranian and First Team All-ODAC selection junior Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown), who led the team in scoring in 2005 with 25 points (11g, 2a). Also returning for the Generals is Honorable Mention ODAC honoree junior midfielder Josh Dodds (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar), who started all 17 games and notched six goals and three assists

Washington and Lee compiled a 9-6-2 overall record and a 5-2-2 league mark last season, en route to earning the third seed in the 2005 ODAC Tournament and advancing to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals.

W&L opens the 2006 season hosting Southern Virginia on Fri., Sept. 8 at 4 p.m.
