HEATHER GRANT RESIGNS AS HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER AT W&L
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike Walsh has announced that Heather Grant, the University's Head Athletic Trainer since June of 2005, has resigned her position effective July 31.
Grant, the wife of former VMI Assistant Lacrosse Coach Mic Grant, will move with her husband to Scranton, Pa., after he was named the Head Lacrosse Coach at Marywood University.
"It has been a pleasure serving Washington and Lee for the past four years," said Grant. "I will miss the great student-athletes and coaches that I have had the opportunity to work with and I am looking forward to new challenges that are awaiting us in Pennsylvania."
Grant was hired as the Generals' associate athletic trainer in August of 2002 after serving as as assistant athletic trainer at Richmond for two years. A 1999 graduate of James Madison University with a bachelor of science in health sciences, Grant served as a student assistant trainer at JMU for three years before obtaining a master’s degree in athletic training from the University of Virginia in 2000. While completing the master’s program, she served as a graduate assistant trainer at Virginia Military Institute during the 1999-2000 school year.
"Heather has done exceptional work on behalf of our athletes,
coaches and students," said Walsh. "She is a genuine professional
who has contributed significantly to our department. We wish her
well as she and Mic begin their new life at Marywood."
An active member of the W&L community, Grant has served as an advisor to the Student Athlete Mentor Group (SAMS) and has supervised several other student leadership groups.
Current Associate Athletic Trainer Josh Williamson will serve as interim head athletic trainer until a formal search is concluded.
